awd, all weather ford transit...

thanks to Lindsay for the great link!

Guys this is a new 4wd system that i think we could implement into our design, what do you think?? Saves us from having a 4wd / 2wd button. My impressions so far is that it engages the front wheels in a similar way traction control is used to regain control.

Element Arangement

Hey guys i did some element aragements to help us understand how many people we can fit within our veichle. Tell me what you guys think

Pictures to go along with my long rant...

Discussion with Tan and John PLEASE READ

Hey Mike, when you left we discussed how we could improve upon alot of the features that we have, and cleared up some major issues.

First things first:
I think we all need to stand back and look what we have at the moment. We all have done alot of work (especially you mike) but we need to critique it all to improve upon what we have done.

1. We needed to increase the wheel base

2. Get rid of those over hangs so from the wheels to the end there should be at least a 45* so that it can get over most terrain.

3.The roll cage we all discussed in detail, and came to the conclusion that we should put in a couple more pillars. This is because if you travel for a long time you want to beable to rest your head against somthing, or hold onto. How high do we want this?? (refer to drawing)
(Have you ever traveled with your Girlfreind/ Partner on a long journey?? You will find them getting tired, and want to lean thier head on somthing.. which leads onto my next point!)

4. The seats! Originaly wanted them to face inwards and outwards, and we still do!! Just a matter of how we do this! In the drawings i'm about to post up you can see what i mean.

But by having a fixed isle and just swinging your legs over to the other side and leaning forward on the backrest, it requires no moving parts, and means we can hold more people as well!

The greatest thing about isle seats is that IF there is more than two people (child/freind/fat man) they can all sit on the same row, have thier personal space and is less intrusive!

(This also enables us to have more room and freedom for people to sit where ever they want. eg: tourguide can sit with them.)

5. We also talked about leg room. (refer to my drawings) If you are on a long trip how can you acomodate for people wanting to stretch out thier legs??

(think about trains, they are cramped, but they are targeting to cram as many people in as possible)

we can use a similar concept, but give a little more room, and the opposite persons legs can go between the opposite persons.

6. When drawing wheels, the rims can give the vechile some definition, as can the tyres it sits on. (think about the personality of a car, 22" bling bling chromies vs 17" m5 wheels... all show no go vs pure performance..of course they both look good..just portray different things.)

7. I highly recomend you all go and study a toyota hiace! and report back your findings!! it will give you a lot better sense of scale, how much room there really is etc, and look at the wheel arches from inside and outside! its quite interesting. The space between the floor and the step down, and also just have a look at how the driver sits. (ontop of the engine)

This is the end of my rant for now... I hope this is all useful information..this is what we discussed after class.

Ok theres alot of things that need to be cleared up, so bare with me for the next couple of posts... but first things first we all need each others mobile numbers, and how many days they will be free in the holidays.

We came to the conclusion that we should try to meet up for about 3 sessions spread evenly apart during the holidays, approximately 4 hours each. (can vary on what we decide)

so post mobile numbers, and time you are free for holidays!

I forgot to run this past you guys today, but what do you think about intergrating some metal bars into the corners of each box on the outer side, so that when people climb up, they have somthing to hold on to

Thought you guys might find this interesting. I pulled this link from the guys doing community. I like the idea of the cockpit and and how it opens up, and they even have a partial canvas roof that can be pulled back. http://www.twike.co.uk/Start.html

Hey Tan, can you post up some screen dumps of your cad files so I can add them into the presentation.

Generally the layout for the passengers, and where the motors are etc

Thanks

Budget Rental Vans

Hey guy's I went down to Budget just now and had a look at one of the vans they have.
Its really interesting because the layout of it is very similar to how we will be arranging our motor, front seats and the space left for our passengers.

In the vans, the people in front sit intop of the motor, and you get access to it from under the seats (lift them up) and there is actualy room for 3 people in the front. The middle seat being able to turn into a cup holder, table, and storeage compartment all in one.
